Hello
My name is Nathan Morton, and I am, and have been, the pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Mount Zion Church Road in Alexis, NC since May of 2022. Here are the links to my social media pages.
My Story
I’m originally from Pender County, North Carolina, and I’m grateful for the way the Lord has woven my life through family, ministry, and a love for learning. I met my wife, Heather, a Saratoga Springs, New York native, while we were in college, and we’ve now been married for 40 years. We have four children spread across North Carolina, Georgia, Colorado, and Indiana, and we’re also blessed with three wonderful grandchildren.
In 2022, Heather and I made Alexis, North Carolina our forever home. We live on Mount Zion Church Rd, and we’ve come to love the rhythm of life here and the people God has placed in our path.

My faith story began in 1981 when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. A few years later, in 1984, I surrendered to God’s call into ministry. Since then, I’ve spent more than 30 years in church revitalization, serving congregations in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. I’ve seen what God can do when His people return to His Word, lean into prayer, and rediscover a mission bigger than themselves.
Education has been a meaningful part of that journey. I earned both my M.Div. and D.Min. from Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC, and I’m thankful for the way those years strengthened my love for Scripture, ministry, and the local church.

Outside of ministry, I’m an avid reader, especially non-fiction, and I enjoy playing piano and guitar. I’ve also had the joy of traveling to England, Cuba, Germany, Greece, Turkey, and Israel. Those experiences have deepened my appreciation for history, philosophy, art, culture, and the world of the Bible. I’ve also self-published several books, and my writing continues to be one of the ways I process what I’m learning and helps me share it with others.
A few fun facts: I’m a Steelers fan, and Heather can’t stand football (lol). My favorite meal is a burger and fries, and my favorite drink is coffee—strong enough to qualify as encouragement.
